Married 14+ years, 5 kids, 6+ cross country moves and we know marriage is HARD. Like most, we got married and thought we had the perfect relationship because we thought lack of conflict meant a good marriage.
In actual reality, we were totally unprepared and lacked the tools to have a good marriage, let alone a truly exceptional one. We carried conflict baggage and didn't learn how to expect and embrace conflict in a marriage-building, intimacy-promoting way. You'll hear more of our story in the Masterclass.
We BOTH were frustrated for YEARS.
Not to mention, neither one of us knew how to actively listen nor how to effectively, respectfully, and lovingly communicate.
Those differences we fell in love with each other for quickly became sticking points of negative focus and actively trying to change the other. Which led to even greater frustration, resentment, and eventually either complete emotional withdrawal or hatred.
How did we go from madly in love to both of us checked out and dreaming of divorce? Phew. It's not what either of us wanted. But it is where we were. If only we had known THEN what we now know, we could've avoided so much heartache, struggle, anger, sleepless nights, and hurt.
This is exactly why we share our story and have a heart for helping others avoid the mess we made and truly craft an exceptional marriage.
